I pretty regularly travel along US 11 in the Shenandoah Valley and that is how this 5x11 ink sketch came to be. Highway 11 has quick access to many art and educational institutions but, more importantly, it has lots of neat small communities like Mt. Sydney, and truly wonderful views of the surrounding region. (As the son of a historian I have to include this quick historical note: The Valley Road, or the The Great Valley Road, is the old name for what is now US 11. The Valley Road was built by early European settlers atop the well established route that Indigenous Americans had long used to traverse the region.)
